A hand-painted ceramic plate painted as a cross-section of watermelon: a red centre scattered with black seeds, a pale green ring of flesh, and a rind banded in three tones of green with fine black lines. The whole thing is painted freehand on a plain round form, with no relief and no raised detail, so the seeds fall where the brush put them and the rind bands are ruled by eye. Sized for a side plate or a dessert plate, and good enough to hang.
